It is illegal to wind back an odometer to misrepresent the actual kilometers a vehicle has travelled to a third party.
Having said that, there is a legitimate need for odometer correction. There are many reasons why there is a need for this service. If your original speedo cluster needs to be changed, you have two options:
a) you will need to purchase a brand new one with zero km, or
b) purchase a second hand one at a wrecking yard without the correct kilometers.
In both these cases you will need your odometer reprogrammed back to its original reading.
In many states Australia wide,kilometers are recorded with each service and each registration renewal.
